Best Rovner Ligature For Jazz

Category: ligature 👁 338 👍 48 ★★★★☆4.9

The answer is YES. The sound is generated through the vibrations both of the mouthpiece and the reed, therefore the ligature is a key piece holding both together. ... The leather ligature or synthetic leather provides a rounder sound, while the metal ligature helps us obtain higher volume and projection in the sound.

Add on, are Rovner ligatures good?

Overall Thoughts. Although Rovner says this ligature has gained a lot of attention from classical players, I would say this ligature would fit well with jazz players as well – especially those who want a punchier sound that will give a hard rubber mouthpiece a bit more edge.

Same, how do you apply Rovner ligature? For the initial installation of the ligature, and to help it take a “set” to your mouthpiece, place it over the reed and mouthpiece and then crank the screw on the ligature for a very tight fit. If you are using a small or thin mouthpiece, it may help to invert the ligature for the initial “set” phase.

In every way, do ligatures make a difference?

One of the questions I am frequently asked by my students and at masterclasses is whether ligatures really do make a difference. The simple answer is yes, they do. ... As mouthpieces often are different circumferences, how a ligature fits on and around your mouthpiece is priority number one.

What are Rovner ligatures made of?

Rovner® ligatures are made to last for years, and will not stretch or rot. Eight of the nine models are constructed of a proprietary textile (not leather!) that goes through extensive, multi-step processes and preparation to ensure its durability and to imbue each ligature with energetic response.

2 More Questions Answered

What is a sax ligature?

A ligature is a device which holds a reed onto the mouthpiece of a single-reed instrument such as a saxophone or clarinet. The ligature must secure the reed firmly against the table of the mouthpiece while allowing it to vibrate freely.

How tight should a clarinet ligature be?

For leather ligatures you want it as tight as possible. There are string ligatures but I never particularly liked them much. I tighten mine until the point that it starts to really hold, and then turn back a half turn. Probably around the same tightness that neesonjar mentions.
